Dr. Giulia Benedetti has been a cardiothoracic consultant radiologist at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust since 2018. She is a specialist in multimodality cardiothoracic imaging. In 2021 she became the responsible Radiologist for the South East London Lung Cancer Screening Program.
She graduated with first-class grades in radiology at San Raffaele Hospital, Milan, in 2012. During her training, she developed a great interest for cardiac MRI and cardiac CT. She is Level 3 ESC/EACVI CMR accredited.
In 2016 she completed a cardiac imaging clinical and research fellowship at the largest cardiac center in Europe (Barts Heart Centre, London). This has included advanced cardiac tissue characterization and perfusion imaging. During her fellowship, she joined a team setting up a Cardiac MRI service in Lima (Peru), a project funded by the British Embassy as part of a research project for sustainable improvement in developing countries. She has been involved actively in research since early in her career. She has developed an interest in AI and machine learning, leading projects based on Radiomics. She has a strong interest in advanced and quantitative cardiac imaging techniques, including Perfusion CT and late iodine enhancement CT. She has taken part in several research projects related to cardiac imaging, presented at national and international conferences, and wrote book chapters. She is regularly taking part in teaching activities trying to share her passion for cardiac imaging with radiology and cardiology registrars and fellows.
