‘I am a Consultant Cardiothoracic Intensivist, Clinical Lead for Organ Donation and Clinical Lead for Advanced Critical Care Practitioners at Harefield Hospital, the Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals in London, UK. My main interests are Critical Care Echocardiography, Lung Ultrasound, Mechanical Circulatory Support, Heart and Lung Transplantation. I am an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the School of Cardiovascular, Metabolic Sciences and Medicine at King’s College London. I was awarded the EACVI Excellence in Education Award in 2021.
I was trained in Critical Care Medicine and Echocardiography at Alexandria University, Egypt and obtained a masters degree in Critical Care Echocardiography from the same university in 2008. I was then trained in Cardiothoracic Intensive Care, Critical Care Echocardiography and mechanical circulatory support at Royal Brompton Hospital in London. Elected Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (UK), American Board of Echocardiography, European Diploma of Intensive Care Medicine, Diploma in Cardiology (London), Post-graduate Diploma in Clinical Education, University of Edinburgh. I severed on several committees of the EACVI over the last 8 years (Education Committee, Scientific Initiatives Committee and I am the past co-chair of the Heart Imagers of Tomorrow Committee.
I was elected as a Member of the Board and Councillor for Echocardiography at the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging of the European Society of Cardiology (2022-2024). Elected as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy of the UK (FHEA). Fellow of the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (FEACVI). Fellow of the American Society of Echocardiography (FASE). Member of the Editorial Boards at JACC Cardiovascular Imaging, Frontiers in Cardiovascular Imaging and the Ultrasound Journal (Springer). Lead editor of the latest Springer textbook ‘Cardiopulmonary Point of Care Ultrasound’ published in 2023.
I am so passionate about medical education and point of care ultrasound as I delivered over 200 lectures, webinars and symposia in many countries around the world over the last 10 years. I love traveling, reading history books, enjoy cycling, cooking and watching documentaries.’
