Dr Campbell qualified from the University of Ulster (UU) in 2000. He trained in Cardiac Physiology at The Belfast City Hospital (BCH) and subsequently undertook his PhD in tissue Doppler echocardiology and diastology through the UU/BCH. He has been performing echocardiography for over 20 years and is fully accredited in all aspects of adult and congenital echocardiography.
He is currently the Head of Training in Echocardiography at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS foundation Trust where he has successfully supervised the MSc STP programme and associated research in echocardiography for 7 years and taught on the STP programme at Newcastle University for 6 years. He is lead physiologist for bubbles study clinics and Transoesophageal Echocardiography.
His special interests are in physiologist-led services in valvular and congenital heart disease and has published several papers in specialist valve services.
National work:
He is a past President and Fellow of his professional body, the Society for Cardiological Science and Technology and was the first of his profession to achieve equivalence of the Higher Specialist Scientific Training through the Academy of Healthcare Science of which he is now a Fellow. He was a Council member of the British Heart Valve Society for over a decade and current member of the British Society of Echocardiography Advisory Council.
